Lichtenstein Castle
Württemberg’s fairytale castle
Lichtenstein Castle is a historical castle from the 19th century. It is situated on the Swabian Alb mountain escarpment at 817 m above sea level.Inspired by the novel “Lichtenstein” by Wilhelm Hauff, the castle was built between 1840 1842 in a Neo-Gothic style. The castle grounds include the Gerobau, the chapel, an extensive castle garden and the romantic castle courtyard. The restored chambers of Count Wilhelm von Württemberg demonstrate the beautiful splendour of the late romantic decor.Lichtenstein Castle is also known as “Württemberg’s fairytale castle” as the Romantic architecture and interior design have been preserved. It is thus seen as a tribute to the Middle Ages.
