Salewa – from Munich to South Tyrol
In 1935, Josef Liebhardt founded Salewa GmbH in Munich. The company initially produced leather and textile goods as well as Backpacks with steel tube frames and ski poles. The company name Salewa, derived from SAttlerleatherWAren (saddlery leather goods), was ctrousers to match the product range . From 1955 onwards, the company became involved in mountain sports and added the necessary Equipment to its range. The brand achieved its breakthrough a few years later with the production of Functional Clothing. In 1979, all products were brought together under a unifying symbol : the Salewa eagle became the company logo and a recognisable symbol of the brand. With growing success, the company headquarters was relocated to Boze, South Tyrol, and international expansion was driven forward. Today, Salewa is represented in over 30 countries with its own branches or agents selling its mountain sports products.
