Join us a on a virtual tour through the 'GERBER' area.

The fashion journey of this area is closely connected with the cloth mills, tanneries and dye works that were based here in the past. In the middle of the 19th century, this site became Metzingen’s first industrial area; later the Hugo Boss factory outlet loacted here was the foundation of OUTLETCITY. In autumn 2019, the BOSS store moved to our area 'Gänslen & Völter'.
This year you will again have the possibility to enter the popular ancient halls of BOSS: don’t miss the two great new flagship outlet stores of Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein that will move in here!

In the past: The foundations for today’s Outletcity

Events

Have you just crossed over a river flowing through OUTLETCITY? It played a significant role in the history of the „Gerber“ area. Water from the Erms-river was essential for the textile mills, tanneries and dye works formerly situated here as it provided not only water but also a source of power for their operations. Consequently, in the middle of the 19th century, this site became Metzingen's first industrial area. Thanks to the small but powerful Erms the transformation of raw animal hides into exclusive shoes, clothing and accessories was made possible.

Never would the tanners have guessed that the foundations of OUTLETCITY METZINGEN would be laid in their quarter: In 1938, the clothing manufacturer and outlet pioneer Hugo Boss moved into the heart of the quarter. Production in the former textile mill on Kanal street continued until 1974. Here was also the site of the first Hugo Boss factory outlet. Since then more and more outlet stores moved to the surrounding area, confirming Metzingen's reputation as an international fashion metropolis.
