Wine from Metzingen

Since the 11th century, wine has been produced in the City of Seven Wine Presses. And because of its historical connection to winemaking and diverse options for wine tourists, the state of Baden-Württemberg has officially recognized Metzingen as a winegrowing city of Germany’s Weinsüden, or winemaking south. The Vinedresser’s association of Metzingen Neuhausen and other small winemaking enterprises tend to their vineyards with much love and hard work. The fruits of their labours are offered by vintners, in Besenwirtschaften — a special seasonal wine tavern, in liquor and grocery stores, and hotels and restaurants. The winegrowing tradition is right at home in Metzingen’s Kelternplatz, where the historical, listed ensemble harbours a vintner and a winemaking museum, among other attractions.

Fruit from Metzingen

In addition to its centuries-old tradition of winemaking, Metzingen also has a long history of fruit cultivation. The apples brought to the area by the monks of the Zwiefalten monastery in the Middle Ages still represent a significant part of Metzingen culture. Today, the Fruit Cultivation Museum is situated in an idyllic spot between meadows dotted with fruit trees in the district of Glems. Enjoy a hands-on exploration of fruit growing during guided tours featuring various products from the region which make a visit to the museum a culinary experience as well.
