Fabric and textiles have a long tradition here. Why? Together with its predecessor, the Raifstänger cloth factory founded in 1820, the Gaenslen & Völter cloth factory was the oldest and for a long time the most important company in Metzingen. The men behind the textile empire were Heinrich Gaenslen and Christian Völter.
At times, the company employed more than 500 people who worked diligently to stretch, dye and weave - until fine wool was created for sheepskin wool suits for men, suits for women and upholstery fabrics for the automotive industry. The Robert Bräuchle leather factory located at Reutlinger Straße also shaped the location as a thriving centre for textiles and leather.
In order to build on this rich historical past, international luxury brands are now walking in their predecessor’s shoes.
